- Shut off the engine, disconnect the battery to prevent accidental starting, and allow the exhaust system and cooling water to cool completely before servicing.
- Drain the exhaust manifold according to your engine service manual before removing the old drain elbow fitting.
- Inspect the manifold drain port threads and clean away scale, rust, or old thread material while protecting the internal threads from damage.
- Thread the replacement fitting in by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten and orient the elbow in accordance with the factory service manual specifications.
