Service & Installation Notes

General service guidance only. Use the service manual for your exact engine and exhaust configuration.

1. Allow the engine and exhaust components to cool completely, shut off the battery switch, and secure the vessel against accidental starting or water intrusion through the exhaust Y-pipe.
2. Compare the replacement lower exhaust bellows against the removed boot to verify the lower installation position and the 4-inch connection diameter at both the elbow end and the Y-pipe end.
3. Clean old rubber residue, scale, and corrosion from the mating surfaces of the 4-inch exhaust elbow and 4-inch Y-pipe without gouging the metal seating areas.
4. Position the bellows and clamps onto the elbow and Y-pipe according to your MerCruiser service manual, ensuring the boot is fully seated and aligned without kinks or twisting before tightening the clamps.
5. After installation, run the engine with proper cooling water supply and inspect the lower exhaust connection for exhaust gas or water leaks. Stop the engine immediately and recheck seating and clamp security if any leakage is observed.
