- Shut off the engine, disconnect battery power to prevent accidental starting, and allow the exhaust system and coolant to cool completely before servicing.
- Drain the manifolds and risers as specified in your engine manual before unbolting joint hardware, supporting heavy exhaust components during disassembly.
- Clean all mating surfaces on the cylinder heads, exhaust manifolds, and dry-joint elbows, taking care not to scratch or gouge the sealing faces.
- Position the block-off and full-flow dry-joint gaskets in the exact joint locations required by your closed-cooling system layout. Do not substitute full-flow gaskets where block-off or restrictor gaskets are required.
- Install the drain plugs with their O-rings and tighten all fasteners to the sequence and specifications in your MerCruiser service manual. After refilling and starting with proper cooling water supply, inspect all joints and drain plugs for coolant, water, or exhaust leaks; stop the engine immediately if any abnormality occurs.
